The project
An upgrade to one of Australia’s busiest urban motorways required extending lanes over areas of previously mined unstable workings. The extent of the working was unknown on commencement of the fast track project. Keller was engaged as a project partner to deliver a turnkey solution to address the potential of future collapse.
The challenge
Many significant challenges were faced during the course of the 2 year program, ranging from mine exploratory and mapping on commencement to establish the scope, to sourcing of low cost fill, through to management and recycling of displaced contaminated groundwater and methane gas all while working next to a live motorway.
The solution
With project uncertainties and significant risks, Keller was engaged as part of the project delivery team on an open, cost incentivized basis. This allowed the works to proceed rapidly on a best for total project basis. The works delivery team drew on the best people available from all the delivery partners, covering design, material handling, traffic management, groundwater management, together with the local and international expertise of Keller in drilling and grouting.
